Constance Baker Motley: Lecture, Discussion and Book Signing
On Sunday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Chester Museum at The Mill, there will be a lecture, discussion and book signing with Dr. Gary Ford, on his new biography, Constance Baker Motley: One Woman’s Fight for Civil Rights and Equal Justice. Motley was our neighbor of forty years and a distinguished NY Federal Judge who had a seasonal home near Cedar Lake. But it is Motley’s earlier life as a trailblazing NAACP LDF civil rights attorney, and her contributions to American civil rights history that will be the focus of Dr. Ford’s talk, “Unsung Hero of the Civil Rights Movement.” As a Professor at CUNY’s Lehman College, Dr. Ford will share his new research into the critical role Motley played dismantling Jim Crow laws in the South during the civil rights era, forever changing the course of American history. A book signing will follow. The event is free and refreshments will be served. Please park in the Library parking lot just up the hill from the Museum.
